Hi! I’m Catriona (pronounced Catreena. It’s a Scottish name)

After earning a business degree in Sheffield, England, I established a successful career in marketing and public relations in London. After moving to the US I began my second career in psychotherapy. I have an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena (part of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology). I trained at the Family Services Agency of Burbank working with young children, teens, adults, couples, and groups.

I provide psychotherapy and coaching for adults, teens, and couples in my office in Pasadena.

I tailor my approach according to you, your personality, and your specific issues. I use a combination of approaches including, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and mindfulness to help bring relief from symptoms of worry, stress, anxiety, and depression.  As part of the therapy process we will explore your past and examine your childhood and your relationships with family members, as this can be where many issues were born. We’ll look at your present and identify your strengths and challenges, and we’ll build a picture of what your happier, healthier future could look like.

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which, although it was developed to treat PTSD, is particularly effective in treating anxiety and low self esteem.

For couples, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) which is a proven therapy to bring about long lasting change for couples wanting to improve their relationship.

Unlike many therapists who sit in silence, I take an active role in our therapy sessions and ask questions, make comments, start discussions, and may even set homework. For coaching, we will be working together to develop a plan for you to achieve your goal.

I’m a marriage and family therapist registered intern working under the professional supervision of Nicole Bonassi Shannon, LCSW (license LCS21044). My intern number is IMF 89751.
