Why ADHD Often Gets Missed
If you got to adulthood without a diagnosis but have always wondered, there’s a reason.
Early ADHD research focused heavily on hyperactive boys, which meant quieter presentations were often overlooked.
People who struggled quietly (more common with girls and women) often learned to mask, to compensate, and to work twice as hard to keep up.
And yet deep down they knew there was something a little different.
So many people don’t get answers until adulthood.
However, a late diagnosis can also come with some sadness and grief about the struggle, and what might have been different.

When diagnosing ADHD we need to rule out a number of other issues that share symptoms. As such I use a number of assessment tools, including the Brown Executive Function / Attention Scale, the Adult ADHD Self Report Scale, along with a detailed diagnostic interview.
This can be done in three extended sessions or over several 50-minute sessions.
Please note this is not the same as a psychologist’s neuropsychological evaluation.
-
For as long as you want! Some people just come for an assessment, others get diagnosed and stay for help managing their ADHD, their emotions, and their relationships.
Some people just come for a few months to learn executive functions skills. Others come once a month for ongoing support and accountability.
